Other Activities
Rangitukia is located on the most Eastern point of New Zealand and is one of the first places to see the sun. The backpackers and the horse trekking are situated on a 9 hectare rural farm which includes various farm animals like cows, sheep, pigs, horses and goats that freely roam the area, numerous tramping tracks and a hill that overlooks the ocean.
Many visitors love to get up early and walk to the top to enjoy watching the sunrise. If you love fishing there’s the opportunity to cast your fishing rod in the surf and catch snapper or kahawai for your evening dinner. For those who like the night life we offer possum shooting or eeling.
Other ‘must do’s’ is visit the beautifully carved and much praised Tikitiki Church (10 min), the Waka (Canoe) near the mouth of the Waiapu River (5 min), the most eastern Lighthouse at the East Cape (1 hr) and the very impressive Mount Hikurangi (1 hr).
